Did you know that the first African jewelries ever discovered were made from Kenya? Their ancient ages ranged from 40,000 years ago and above. Beads were first made from diverse and unique materials.  Most of them were made from wood and their main components were made from assorted stones. When Africans migrated to different places, their craftsmanship had been holistically improved to what they call summit of perfection.

What are the materials used in African Jewelries?

Since the dawn of ancient civilization,  African jewelries have been integrated with those found in the bosom of Mother Earth.  Over the years, those brilliant and persevering artisans have been synchronized with different elements that signify wealth, power and a person’s social standing. In these modern times, the materials used for these rare to find accessories are: Seashells, gold and silver.

As far as those handmade African jewelries are concerned,  these are dominated by amber, carved stone, glass, wood, paper, wood,ivory, animal hair, egg shells, bone, sea shells and a lot of other things. These are likewise composed of perforated beads.

Remarkably, beaded African jewelries have been utilized for trade and currency purposes. Africa.White stone beads have been found near Nigeria- Nok. Those have been discovered 1588 years ago. In the 15 century, artists in Nigeria (the Kingdom of Benin), have started to use coral beads, brought in large quantities by people in Portugal, to make elaborate regalia and clothing for their kings.
