Earrings are stunning pieces of jewelries which are attached to the earlobes via the most gentle method of piercing. Uniquely, these are categorically classified as accessories for both female and male genders. According to the ancient records of history, these have evidently shown that they were worn to denote numerous purposes based on Biblical records. In Exodus 32:1–4, it is written that while Moses was up on Mount Sinai, the Israelites demanded that Aaron make a god for them. It is written that he commanded them to bring their sons’ and daughters’ earrings (and other pieces of jewelry) to him in order that he might comply with their demand. (ca. 1500 BCE)

Over the years, earrings have become more fashionable than ever before among courtiers and gentlemen during the 1590’s circa of the English Renaissance Period. Based on the document which was published in 1577 by a notable clergyman named William Harrison, he meaningfully said these words in all sincerity.
“Some lusty courtiers and gentlemen of courage do wear either rings of gold, stones or pearls in their ears.” Among sailors, a pierced earlobe was a symbol that the wearer had sailed around the world or had crossed the equator. In addition, it is commonly held that a gold earring was worn by sailors in payment for a proper burial in the event that they might drown at sea. Should their bodies have been washed up on shore, it was hoped that the earring would serve as payment for “a proper Christianburial”
Traditionally, the practice of wearing earrings was initially done by the Ainu men and women. However, the Meiji Government of Japan prohibited males of Ainu to wear these captivating ornaments in the latter part of the 19th century for some reason. Despite of these challenging circumstances, the 1950’s and 1960’s dubbed as the Golden Years paved the way for the resurgence of these fads as dramatic forms of fashion statements.
Meanwhile, the so-called multiple ear piercings transpired in the American mainstream during the advent of the 1970’s. In fact, double ear piercing were also prevalent among infants in Central America. To date, Costa Rica was cited as the pioneer in ear piercing to proudly introduce the unmistakable elegance of earrings then and now.
